S1 Colour wheel

Have a look at the fantastic colour wheel which some S1 classes have created in Mrs Cuthbertson's classroom.  The pupils brought in a variety of coloured objects to create the wheel and have been using it to help them understand colour theory.  Well done S1!

Photography

Our photography class has been working hard on a portraiture project.  Below, one of our pupils explains what she has been learning.

In photography we have been learning about portraiture.   We have been outside taking photographs of each other using a digital camera, and have had a go at using a digital SLR camera.  We have taken photos in the school of people within the class and have learned how to edit and manipulate them on Photoshop.

We have also been working working on researching the work of famous portrait photographers.  I have chosen to look at Mario Testino the photographer, who has taken photos of lady gaga, Princess Diana, and many more celebrities.  He worked for Princess Diana and photographed her famous “Varity fair’ cover.

I have enjoyed taking photographs and learning how to work a digital camera to compose better photos.  I feel much more confident using Photoshop now and am able to remove blemishes, adjust the brightness and contrast of an image as well as cropping images.

Learning to Achieve Festival

This week we have been delighted to have the opportunity to exhibit some of our senior pupils' work as part of Falkirk Council's 'Learning to Achieve Festival.'

Our 'Celebrating Success in Art and Design Exhibition' has been running all week in the school library, showcasing the talent of our artistic young people and has received many positive comments already.  Here is a small selection of what's on show.  We would love to welcome you along and the exhibition will continue until the end of the school day tomorrow (Friday 1st October).

Travelling Gallery Visit

Larbert High School enjoyed a visit from the Travelling Gallery on Monday 27th September 2010.  A range of classes from the Art and design Department were able to visit the art exhibition on board the bus, titled 'Impossible Nation.'  Pupils had their thoughts and opinions challenged by the modern artwork by a variety of contemporary artists.  Here are some photos from the day.

Some things to do during the holidays...

I would love for more young people to visit some of the amazing art galleries and exhibition we have right on our doorstep!

If you're bored of being on holiday by now(and even if you're not!), here are some interesting galleries to visit.  Most are free and will certainly inspire your creative mind.  Don't think of art galleries as boring places for adults - they really are much more exciting and will force you to consider what art really is.

GOMA - Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow (lots of interesting permanent artwork as well as the Fiona Tan exhibition and Unsettled objects exhibition.)

Park Gallery, Falkirk (Current exhibition on Allan Davie showing)

Smith Gallery, Stirling (Some interesting photography on here at the moment)

National Galleries, Edinburgh (loads to see here)

Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh (contemporary art)

Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Glasgow (lots to inspire you here, you might like the David Shrigley installation)

Ok, thats all for now!
